Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
