Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet rescued four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
